Well, I finally got up the gonads and did it. On Friday June 1st 2007 at 5:00 pm (PT) I drifted into the world of sans corrective lenses. Let me tell you, it was an experience like no other. My good friend Greg has a great Lasik
blog post called "Spotting Dimes & Avoiding Mailboxes" and is well worth the read. In fact, while my eyes were being lasered into the stone ages, it was this post that was my "power animal" as I recalled some of Greg's insights as the procedure went on and I think I may have actually smiled. That being said, and feel free to call me a wuss, but Lasik eye surgery is no walk in the park. I am 100% happy that I did the surgery, my eyes are healthy and my vision is phenomenal. The procedure itself is very intrusive and very uncomfortable. Anyone who tells you different is either so happy with the results and/or so far removed from the procedure being done that they don't recall how uncomfortable those 15 minutes are. In no way is it the most pain I have ever felt, nor it is the longest surgery I have ever had (in fact it IS the shortest I have ever had) but for me it is 15 minutes I will never forget. Perhaps it was because the ativan (sedative) had little to no effect on me and I was fully non-relaxed the whole time. I dunno. Like I said, I am very happy with the results, but watching the footage (we taped it for
"The Lab") I still recalled every moment and it wasn't pleasant.
